I am a firm believer that your part time jobs can be as helpful as an office job within your field. Throughout my career I have picked up many different skills at each job and position I have held and it has helped in ways I couldn`t imagine. My waitressing skills became an asset when I was serving clients in the advertising and my management skills were essential to my success in every job. Who knew folding clothes at the gap would eventually come in handy when dealing with real honest to goodness business.
I began my career in a resturaunt. I believe that everyone should have to work in a resturaunt atleast once in their lifetime to really understand that experience. I worked my way through the positions starting as a hostess and eventually ending up as a server. Just within that small workplace I was able to learn termindous life lessons which have helped in all career choices.
A few years after my waitressing gig I began working as an enterainment coordinator at Putting Edge. I would soon become the Assistant Operations Manager there and gain great first hand experience on running a business. I was responsable for HR including training, hiring and terminations. I did weekly bank reconiliations, marketing plans as well as day to day running of the store. My time there definatly prepared me for my job as an Account Coordinator in downtown Toronto.
I began in the agency as an intern working for free and was eventually able to move to a full time Accounts position. There I attend meetings, managed small projects, organized translations for government websites and did anything they asked me to do. It was amazing. I loved working downtown and the whole agency was fantastic. I primarly worked on a magazine. My favourite part had to be the photoshoots!
I now have my most fullfilling job to date. I work as a bra fitter in a specialty lingerie store called Change. Fitting woman for bras has given me a whole new perspective on woman both physcially and emotionally. I never knew that changing the way a woman sees her body and finally finding something that fits could truely change their self image. I look forward to continuing my life in the lingerie world.
